At Our Angels, we take immense pride in the comprehensive training we offer to local midwives and health visitors. Over the years, we have conducted 4 intensive bereavement training seminars, equipping around 70 midwives and 10 other health professionals with invaluable tools and insights to navigate the complexities of child loss.
This training is not just about enhancing professional skills; it’s about fostering empathy, sensitivity, and compassion in the face of unimaginable grief. By providing midwives and health professionals with the knowledge and resources to support families with empathy and understanding, we aim to ensure that each family receives the care and support they need during this profoundly difficult time.
Expanding the scope of our training to include consultants, junior doctors, and other staff who interact with bereaved parents is a significant milestone in our journey. By reaching a wider audience, we are amplifying the impact of our efforts and ensuring that more health professionals are equipped to provide compassionate care to families experiencing loss.
Looking ahead, we are exploring avenues to introduce this training to student midwives and junior doctors in Yorkshire during their medical training. By instilling the importance of compassionate care from the outset, we can increase the number of health professionals, who are well-prepared to handle these tragic situations with grace and sensitivity.
We firmly believe that getting it right from the start is paramount. Health professionals have a profound impact on the psychological recovery of parents, and providing the right kind of care can make a world of difference. The feedback we’ve received from midwives who have undergone our training has been overwhelmingly positive – they feel better prepared and more capable of providing the support needed during such heartbreaking times.
In our commitment to continuous improvement, we have also expanded our efforts to include sending midwives and student midwives to specialist conferences focusing on bereavement midwifery. As we look to the future, expanding our work in this area remains a core focus for Our Angels. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of families experiencing loss.
